Tax school

The South Arkansas tax school location will be November 18-19 at Hotel Hot Springs

The 2020 tax deadline is still six months away, but the time is now for tax preparers to gear up for the start of the 2020 tax season.

The University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture Cooperative Extension Service offers a two-day Income Tax School that provides tax preparers — and anyone else interested in advanced income tax preparation — with the latest updates in the tax code.

This year’s instructors will be Gregory Metcalf, a longtime Internal Revenue Service employee who recently retired as a senior stakeholder liaison, and Curtis Davis, a licensed CPA with 23 years’ experience in preparing federal and Arkansas state income tax returns. Davis also has 10 years of experience teaching others to prepare income tax returns.

“We’re excited that Curtis Davis is returning and that Gregory Metcalf will be joining us,” said Kim Magee, extension community, professional and economic development tax school director for the Division of Agriculture. “Both are highly experienced and knowledgeable in tax preparation.”

The Income Tax School is approved by the IRS as a continuing education provider. Participants can earn 16 hours of continuing professional education credit, including two hours of ethics. This year’s curriculum also includes a Qualified Business Income Deduction update.

The course will be offered in five cities around Arkansas. The South Arkansas location will be November 18-19 at Hotel Hot Springs.

Registration runs from 8-8:30 a.m. on the first day of each two-day course; class begins at 8:30 a.m. each day, concluding at 4:30 p.m. A certificate of attendance will be awarded after class is dismissed on the second day. The cost of the two-day course is $275.
