U.S. 82

The state will let bids for U.S. 82 widening projects in January.

The bid letting for Columbia County’s next major highway project apparently won’t take place until January 2020.

Arkansas Department of Transportation officials released last week their list of the projects scheduled for the next three bid lettings on November 6, January 8 and February 26.

The widening of U.S. 82 from U.S. 79 to County Road 27 has been set for the January 8 date. The 5.7-mile project, which will widen the highway along the north side of Magnolia to a location near the PotlatchDeltic mill, is expected to cost between $20-30 million.

The state first set the bid letting for April 2019 but pulled the work from its list.

If the state does let the work in January, construction would likely not start until the spring with a completion date that could take 2-3 years.

During the same January 8 date, the state expects to let bids for another section of the U.S. 82 widening project. It will cover 6.1 miles in Union County from Airport Drive to U.S. 82B on the west side of El Dorado. It also has an estimated cost of $20-30 million.
