Arkansas lottery

Columbia County residents lost $158,243 more than they won during May from the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery.

Columbia County had $384,731 in lottery ticket sales in May with winnings of $226,488 awarded, according to a report released June 10 by the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery -- a division of the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration.

This is down from ticket sales of $402,963 in April and winnings of $243,179 awarded in April.

Statewide, lottery ticket sales totaled $42,818,363.50 in May, up slightly from April sales of $42,773,997. Winnings of $26,074,074 were awarded in Arkansas for May, down from April winnings of $26,290,965.

The seven nearby Southwest Arkansas counties had lottery ticket sales and winnings as follows for the month of May:

Calhoun County had lottery ticket sales of $54,475.50 in May, with winnings of $31,526 awarded.

Hempstead County had lottery ticket sales of $417,916 in May, with winnings of $244,185 awarded.

Lafayette County had lottery ticket sales of $93,120 in May, with winnings of $52,908 awarded.

Miller County had lottery ticket sales of $673,834 in May, with winnings of $387,496 awarded.

Nevada County had lottery ticket sales of $256,887.50 in May, with winnings of $154,361 awarded.

Ouachita County had lottery ticket sales of $580,037.50 in May, with winnings of $355,342 awarded.

Union County had lottery ticket sales of $987,611 in May, with winnings of $554,569 awarded.

Magnolia Food Mart, 302 Hwy. 79 North, Magnolia, total net sales $35,218 and average weekly sales $8,804.50.

Dixie Mart No. 28, 407 W. Main St., Magnolia, total net sales $26,751.50 and average weekly sales $6,687.88.

Riders Travel Plaza, 441 Hwy. 79 South, Magnolia, total net sales $26,407.50 and average weekly sales $6,601.88.

Dixie Mart No. 25, 1119 S. Jackson, Magnolia, total net sales $26,324 and average weekly sales $6,581.

It is noted that Brookshire's total is a negative number. According to a representative with the ASL, this negative number indicated a retailer the ASL owed money to. Retailers with a negative balance cash more lottery tickets than they sell. The ASL pays them every quarter for any negative balances they have.
