First Baptist Church of Magnolia called a new pastor and began a major construction project this week.

Dustin Wisely, youth and family pastor at the church, accepted the church’s call to succeed Brent Summerhill as senior pastor.

First Baptist Church is the largest church in Columbia County and one of the oldest, having been founded more than 150 years ago.

Wisely joined the church staff in January 2008. He and his wife, Angela, are both graduates of Central Baptist College in Conway where he received a bachelor of science degree in religious education. He is also a graduate of the Baptist Missionary Association Theological Seminary and holds a master of arts in religion.

The Wiselys are the parents of four daughters, Aria, Noel, Brooklyn and Selah.

Wisely was previously youth minister at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Greenbrier for six years.

The church has begun the demolition of two houses that it owns fronting East North Street near Central Elementary School.

Wisely said the church is building a 6,400-square-foot student center. The building will also have a 2,000-square-foot covered church with a worship center for college, high school and junior high students. It will also feature a kitchen, lounging and dining area, and game rooms.

Summerhill announced his resignation in June. He had been senior pastor since June 2014.
