A Parent Academy meeting will be held at the Columbia District building on South Madison Street.

The Magnolia Community Awareness Council has announced plans to establish a “parent academy” to help parents become full partners in the education of their children.

Dr. Wendell F. Colen will speak to interested people at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Columbia District Building, 611 S. Madison.

The academy will offer classes that empower and inform parents, review grade course requirements and school expectations, review the importance of math and reading, and discuss the importance and use of test scores.

James Moore of the Magnolia Community Awareness Council said the goal of the academy is to provide educational excellence for all of our children by informing parents about the importance of their roles, uniting families and schools, and giving the parents a fuller sense of their rights, responsibilities and education opportunities available.
