Merrytime in Magnolia is under way at the Magnolia Square.
An ice skating rink has been set up along North Jefferson Street at Square Park. It will be open until 7 p.m. Friday, and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. It is sponsored by the Albemarle Foundation and the Magnolia Advertising and Promotion Commission.
Carriage rides will be sponsored by The Barn at Two Patch on Friday, and hot chocolate will be sponsored by Warnock Furniture on Friday and Saturday.
A visit by Santa Claus will be sponsored on Saturday by Edward Jones.
Winners of the Winter Wonderland Christmas Pole Contest will be announced at 2 p.m. Saturday. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Businesses and organizations previously registered to decorate light poles around the square. The decorations will be on display through December 30.
The Morley Family magic show will be presented from 2-3 p.m. Saturday at the Albemarle Stage in Square Park, sponsored by Farmers Bank & Trust. Face painting and balloon art will follow.
A gingerbread house competition will be held at SAU Beyond the Campus, 113 N. Jefferson, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon. Judging will start at 1 p.m. Prizes for first, second and third will be presented in the following age groups: Pre-K to second grade, third to sixth grade, seventh to 12 grade and adults 18 and older.
The Magnolia Arts Center will have a free showing of the motion picture, “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Children should be accompanied by a parent or sitter. The film is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Magnolia.
Magnolia Square merchants will be open late through Saturday.
