If you’re an LSU fan, or just a football fan, you might want to be at the Emerson PurpleHull Pea Festival on Saturday.
Former LSU standout linebacker and first-round NFL draft pick Devin White will be in attendance -- to shell peas.
White plans to compete in the festival’s World Cup PurpleHull Pea Shelling Competition.
He was convinced to enter the sport by Marla Hanson, a friend and four-time world purple hull pea shelling champion. The competition consists of contestants shelling peas for a five-minute period. At the conclusion of that time, each person’s peas are weighed.
As a linebacker for LSU, White was the 2018 collegiate Butkis Award recipient, an honor given annually to the top linebackers at the high school, collegiate and professional levels of football.
In the most recent NFL Draft, White was the fifth pick in the first round. He was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
White is a graduate of North Webster High School in Springhill.
The PurpleHull Pea Festival and magnoliareporter.com-KZHE World Championship Rotary Tiller Race will be Friday and Saturday.
