There will be no Merrytime in Magnolia this year.

The event on the Magnolia Square had been set for Friday.

“It is with the heaviest heart that we have to cancel this year's Merrytime in Magnolia,” the Magnolia-Columbia County Chamber of Commerce said in a statement on its Facebook page.

“We were so excited to bring a little Christmas joy to the community, but due to the growing number of COVID-19 cases in our community and with our entertainment, we felt it in the best interests of our community that we cancel our event.

“We understand the frustration of another event cancelled, but please bear with us. We cannot wait to come back after COVID-19 is under control with fun events and celebrations for everyone.”

The Chamber of Commerce still has plans to proceed with its “Let It Glow Christmas House Contest” and “Tour of Lights” interactive map.

Plans for Merrytime included a display with live reindeer, a visit by Santa Claus, and other events on the Magnolia Square.
