Resident assistants

Southern Arkansas University has named its latest group of resident assistants in campus housing.

Southern Arkansas University has appointed 64 students as resident assistants for campus housing through the 2019-20 academic year.

Columbia County students selected as RAs include the following:

Warren Basinger, assigned to Greene Hall, senior marketing major from Magnolia.

Yassamine Ghazzali, assigned to Greene Hall, senior pre-health professional biochemistry major and French minor from Magnolia.

Malik McBride, assigned to Magnolia Hall, sophomore middle school education major from Magnolia.

T'Kobe McDonald, assigned to Harrod Hall, junior financial entrepreneurship major from Magnolia.

Chinedu Okeke, assigned to University Hall, senior foreign language in Spanish education major from Magnolia.

Jevaree Prevo, assigned to the Mulerider Pointe Apartments, senior university studies major from Waldo.

Jessamyn Smith, assigned to Harrod Hall, sophomore financial entrepreneurship major from Magnolia.

Resident assistants are student leaders and representatives for Southern Arkansas University's Department of Housing.

RAs are responsible for a wide range of duties including serving the SAU resident community as a peer counselor and assisting their resident director in maintaining overall management and monitoring of their residence hall.

In addition to their daily duties, RAs serve as a liaison between University Housing and student, developing regular social, educational, and safety programs as well as conducting floor meetings to promote positive communication.

These recipients have a room and board scholarship each semester as an RA.

Applicants for RA positions must be a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student with a minimum 2.25 cumulative GPA.

Applicants must also have spent a minimum of one semester residence in a SAU residence hall.
