Taylor’s third-grade students pose with copies of their new dictionaries provided by the Rotary Club of Magnolia.

The Rotary Club of Magnolia continues to distribute copies of the “American Heritage Children’s Dictionary” to third-grade students at all schools in Columbia County.

Third graders at Taylor Elementary School were the most recent students to receive the book.

Traditionally, Rotary Club members make the presentations in person but due to COVID-19, distribution has been handled through other means.

Money to purchase the dictionaries is raised through an annual breakfast.

The hardcover book is provided free of charge to all of the students and is theirs to keep. It has more than 13,000 main entries and more than 1,000 full-color photos and drawings. Brief articles go into more detail on many topics. An appendix features a thesaurus, and sections on phonics and spelling, measurement and geography.

Teachers often incorporate use of the dictionary in their lesson plans.
