More area students now will have the opportunity to pursue higher education thanks to the generosity of an anonymous donor who recently gave a $100,000 gift marked for student scholarships to the South Arkansas Community College Foundation.

SouthArk president Dr. Bentley Wallace announced the donation during the college’s recent board of trustees meeting.

“This donation will provide significant opportunities to students who might otherwise be unable to attend college,” he said. “The generosity of our donor will provide a lasting impact on our region for many years to come.”

Funds for this scholarship will support students who are studying business, computer information technology, health sciences and other areas at South Arkansas Community College, and will help pay for tuition, mandatory fees, books and supplies.

“This significant contribution is important for students who are seeking their education,” foundation president Greg Withrow said. “Scholarships are a huge part of paying for college expenses, and donations to scholarships are critical for student success and completion.”

The SouthArk Foundation provides numerous giving options to help students with tuition, fees, books and other related education expenses. Donations also may be made to support faculty and staff in using high-technology teaching tools; to support building projects; and for special college programs.

“People needn’t be wealthy and donate thousands of dollars to make a difference in a student’s life. Even a few dollars is impactful in helping a student achieve their dream of completing their higher education,” foundation executive director Cynthia Reyna said. “We welcome and greatly appreciate gifts of any size.”
